The finale of Against the Current (兰香如故) wants a grand verdict. The emperor clears the Shen family and builds graves and a shrine for its “virtuous” women. It feels less like justice than old feudal packaging. The court scenes in the last episodes are awkward. Many viewers compare the show to the years between Zhu […]
A dropped hairpin can speak louder than a speech. In Against the Current (兰香如故), Xu Lanxiang (许兰香) lets a small floral ornament fall in front of her grandmother. She says nothing. The old woman understands at once: be careful of Du Cuique (杜翠雀). That tiny object is not a pretty extra. It is a warning, […]
In the finale of Against the Current (兰香如故), Du Cuique (杜翠雀) dies outside the Lin estate. Before the flames reach her, she has already lost three times to Lanxiang (兰香). The first scheme, built around larkspur and aimed at Lin Jinqi (林锦岐), falls apart. The second, a poison plot inside the Lin household, is exposed. […]
At the end of Against the Current (兰香如故), four servant girls stand near Lanxiang (兰香): Xiaolian (小莲), Yuchan (玉蝉), Gantang (甘棠), and Baogai (宝盖). Each has a different bond with her mistress. Xiaolian feels closest. Yuchan works best. Gantang reads people with quiet wisdom. Yet the one who remains beside Lanxiang the longest is Baogai. […]
After the finale of Against the Current (兰香如故), one argument keeps returning: Lin Xiuru (林秀茹) is the most wicked woman in the Lin family. The proof? She used an amicable divorce to secure the Yuan family estate, then stained the dead Yuan Shaohui (袁绍辉) with rumors of military failure. Because of her, her daughters fell […]
At first glance, A Prophet (我不是大师) looks like a revenge tale set in the Republican era. Then its finale arrives, and the floor drops. Shangguan Chengming (上官诚明) finally steps into the truth, yet victory tastes like ash. Jiang Feiyan (江飞燕) has her own plan, and the audience waits for a clean win. Instead, every major […]
I went into the finale of A Prophet (我不是大师) expecting to feel smarter than the writers. For weeks I was sure Jin Buhuan (金不换) was rotten. Saving the hero? Cold calculation. He wanted Wang Jiaxian (王家贤) to hate Zu Ye (祖爷) enough to kill him. A son destroying his father—that would hurt more than any […]
A new 30-episode costume fantasy has finally shown its cards. How to Slay Your Boss (千夜奇谭) announced its full cast, began shooting in August 2026, and will stream only on iQIYI and its TV app. Wajijiwa (哇唧唧哇) Entertainment produces it with iQIYI. Zhao Yilong (赵一龙), who directed Love Game in Eastern Fantasy (永夜星河), sits in […]
Viewers who finished Against the Current (兰香如故) often describe the same reaction: quiet sobbing, then anger, then a strange tenderness. Xu Lanxiang (许兰香) dies in her eighties. Her children are nearby. Her later years are stable, even kind. By ordinary measures, her story closes well. The detail that refuses to leave is smaller and sharper: […]
In Spring of the Blade (一瓯春), Zhou Ye plays Xie Qingyuan (谢清圆). One look has tiny pearls fixed to her face: two in the center of her forehead, seven on each cheek. Modern viewers often blink and ask, “Why would anyone wear pearls there?” The actress first caught wide attention in Word of Honor (山河令) […]
