At the close of Against the Current (兰香如故), Lanxiang (兰香) imagines all the sisters standing together. Lin Jinqi (林锦岐) has died. The camera drifts across the group: Furong Xiu (芙蓉绣) sings onstage, Yuchan (玉蝉) reads, Lin Xiulai (林秀莱) checks accounts, Xiaolian (小莲) jokes with Gantang (甘棠), Lin Xiuwan (林秀芄) leads her horse, and Lin Xiuru […]
In Against the Current (兰香如故), marriage is not a quiet footnote. It is a battlefield with teacups and account books. Lanxiang (兰香) watches three maids she trusts: Yuchan (玉蝉), Xiaolian (小莲), and Gantang (甘棠). Yuchan marries Jiugao (九皋), Xiaolian marries Nanke (南客). Both become wives of Qianhu (千户), a military rank with real weight. Then […]
In the finale of Against the Current (兰香如故), a dying woman says a name that belongs to two daughters. Xu Lanxiang (许兰香) turns, thinking her mother calls her. Then Xue Guihua (薛桂花) whispers, “Lanxiang is coming for me.” The room goes quiet. Xu Lanxiang does not scream. Her tears fall without sound. Why? Not only […]
In Against the Current (兰香如故), the funeral of First Madam leaves almost everyone in tears. Viewers mourn her life and admire her unusual grace. Only after she is gone does the truth settle: Lanxiang (兰香) did not receive her greatest fortune when she married Lin Jinqi (林锦岐). Her real blessing was having the First Madam […]
When Zhou Ye (周也) released a new set of Hanfu portraits, viewers expected soft gardens, quiet gestures, and gentle light. Instead, they met red and blue backdrops, a black vest over a green robe, and a mood closer to a ghost story than a spring album. The images quickly split opinion. Some said they were […]
Near its finale, Against the Current (兰香如故) has earned praise for a story that refuses easy comfort. Xu Lanxiang (许兰香) returns from Jinling (金陵) to the capital in episode 31, leaving the place where her troubles began and facing the city that once belonged to her. The cruelest villain, Zhao Gelao (赵阁老), caused the massacre […]

Zhou Ye (周也) has a new photo set, and it does not ask for gentle approval. Shot by Zuo Hetong (左和童), the images push a mood of bad and beautiful: cold, sharp, and strangely magnetic. The visual base is Chinese style, but not the soft kind. A Ming-style stand collar, black-green clash, butterfly embroidery, silk […]
What makes a marriage worth keeping? In Against the Current (兰香如故), the Lin household offers no single answer. Three women face betrayal, violence, ambition, and duty. One leaves. One stays and bargains. One slowly turns a political match into love. Their choices do not compete for a crown; they simply show how survival can look […]
Two women in Against the Current (兰香如故) lose everything when Zhao Gelao (赵阁老) falls. Zhao Liuniang (赵六娘) and Zhao Xingtang (赵星棠) are humiliated, then die in the rebellion. They are not villains. Like Shen Jialan (沈嘉兰), they are caught by family politics. But one detail nags: Lin Jinqi (林锦岐) spends six years planning a divorce […]
