Enraged, Fang Chang revealed himself and hurled a volley of long nails at the defenseless He Simu. Shenying leaped to shield her, but she pushed him aside—she knew a mortal would die from those nails. The spikes pierced her body, drawing blood. Yet Fang Chang had not found her weak spot. Without it, her wounds would heal as soon as her power returned. She simply endured the pain, then handed her Wanling Lantern to Shenying and told him to find Meng Wan (孟晚).
Fang Chang then used a puppet spell to control several mortals and attack her. But his efforts were useless. He Simu soon regained her strength, and Fang Chang fled in terror.
