Are the costumes in Chinese historical dramas hanfu?

Why are the costumes in many chinese historical dramas not hanfu? Why don’t they wear hanfu?

It may be because there are many Chinese historical dramas with subjects that are not set in an exact ancient Chinese dynasty. Therefore they will use some costumes that are very similar to hanfu, but cannot be considered as hanfu.

The costumes in the drama are more for the drama plot and broadcast effect and specially made, I think, but I feel that the costumes of ordinary people in the drama are quite like the ancient ones.

These beads are called 旒, Liu. I searched and its special meaning was to remind the emperor that a person who is a leader must see the big picture and be able to tolerate the smallest imperfections. In addition, the number of Liu is a sign of distinction between nobility and dignity, with the emperor being the most honored with twelve strings.

The bead veil in front is to represent the Emperor’s unbiased character when in court official proceedings with vassals and emissaries of kingdoms under his jurisdiction. Much like the equivalent of the blindfold over the eyes of Lady Justice holding a scale of balance personified in the statue of court houses in modern day.
