I received this songku and beizi a few days ago and I couldn’t be happier!! I love the embroidery and the fit and the colors. Hanfu is so beautiful, I’m so happy to be able to celebrate historical dress like this in the modern day 🙂

What are your favorite styles of hanfu to wear as the weather gets warmer? I think Tang pieces feel especially spring-y, and Ming pieces always bring the flora!

I think Tang and Song are the best choices, as both of them feature pretty styles that are suitable for the summer. Also the fabrics are less dense I think, which makes them more breathable.

Swimwear
I’ve been heading to the beach a lot these past few weeks and now I’m curious… what did people wear when they went swimming in pre-modern times? I have some understanding of Western swimwear (bathing gowns from the 1500s on), but I don’t know anything about it outside of Europe. Does anyone have any insight as to what was worn in China throughout the ages for swimming?

For China, historical records and academic discussions suggest that swimming and related attire were less documented. Before the 20th century, swimming in China was not widely practiced.

Those are clothes! I’ve found a book that claims there is evidence of people swimming for sport in the Shang Dynasty, but that’s obviously very far back! I wonder if most people simply swam with only their undergarments or something. Neat to learn about!

Tips for Drawing Hanfu?
Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone here also likes to draw, and if they have any tips for drawing hanfu. My main struggle is always with patterns — it takes me forever to make a nice pattern on clothing, but I feel like hanfu needs it! What are some hacks you all use?

It depends on your medium. Do you draw traditionally or digitally? It’s easier on digital, for you can apply a different layer with your pattern on it and adjust to the folds and volumes, with a “multiply” mode. In traditional drawing, I think it’s better to get the drepaes, folds and volumes right befor drawing patterns on. It would save you time since not every bit of fabric is visible in the final composition.

I do draw Donghua also other things too but I haven’t try drawing Hanfu yet since the patterns can be tricky sometime, I would also like to learn it as well 😊
