Usually, they are modified but based on traditional clothing. I would say that it´s the same case as with modern hanfu.

Some historical dramas (Nirvana in Fire, Longest Day in Chang’an) DO use accurate Hanfu! But for xianxia? Nah—those outfits are 99% ✨vibes✨. So rock whatever you like, but if you want authentic Hanfu, check out recreation brands!
