Is there a reason for the different styles of forehead makeup? Or is it just a trend or symbol of rank?

I think there are some styles that have special meanings. For example, some flowers. But many patterns are abstract, perhaps only the people of the time know what they represent😂😂.

I had previously read an article about the meaning of the Huadian pattern in a TV series.
But I only remember part of it, such as some Huadian are ginkgo leaves, which have the meaning of longevity. Peony represents wealth and prosperity.
It may be a speculation, but Huadian became popular at first because of its good looks. But gradually it surely gave some special meanings. As to whether there is a symbol of rank, I don’t quite sure. Hope it helps you.

I think there is no meaning… It is only a kind of decoration. Perhaps as it developed, the patterns became more and more complex. The huadian pattern of an ordinary servant certainly could not be more complicated than the master (in ancient times)
