Tang and Song dynasties both had Beizi, are they the same?

Is it because their names are close, or they are the same costumes?😂

In the Tang Dynasty, it was called beizi (背子), which was worn on the outermost part of the body and was somewhat like a t-shirt. There is sleeveless and short sleeves style, and the collar is u-shaped collars or symmetrical ones. In the Song Dynasty, there was a kind of beixin (背心), short-sleeved or sleeveless, worn with Qixiong. Beixin was also known as bijia (比甲) in the Ming Dynasty.

In the Song Dynasty, there was another kind called beizi (褙子), which belonged to the dress, usually with rimmed edges and length to the feet.

How I understand it: Tang beizi ≈ Song beixin ≈ Ming bijia ≈ sleeveless/short-sleeved/short jacket, like a t-shirt. //////// Song beizi = long thin jacket, maybe I’m not exactly right, but I hope it’s helpful to you.😚

I don’t think it’s hanfu. But it has the style of traditional dress, it just more reference to the patterns on the Dunhuang frescoes.
