The term “Zeng Jiao (缯角)” is taken from Mr. Huang Nengfu’s “CHINESE DRESS & ADORNMENT THROUGH THE AGES”, and is a term used to describe the “protruding parts” on both sides of the hanf.
Zeng Jiao is one of the most special official identification of the Ming Dynasty official uniform. Dahu (褡护), Yisan (曳撒), round neck robe, these three official robe form have obvious Zeng Jiao structure, look into the reason is because the Ming dynasty robe side more for the slit structure, easy to reveal the bottom layer of clothing, so add Zeng Jiao, play a cover effect, but also a kind of out of “ritual system” consideration. It doesnt have a special name that I know of. Its probably made of rattan, or wiker, and looks pretty solid ^^
