After escaping three powerful enemies, a mysterious stranger falls from the sky into the Luotian Star Region (罗天星域). When he unleashes a bolt of ancient lightning to save four desperate cultivators, they immediately fall to their knees. They believe he is a messenger from the prestigious Lei Xian Hall (雷仙殿). But is Wang Lin (王林) really who they think he is, or is this just another new identity for the master of disguises? As he arrives on the planet Ran Yun (冉云), he encounters an old face from the past.
However, this once-mighty elder is now withered and frail, his life force fading fast. The encounter forces Wang Lin to confront not just new dangers, but the quiet desperation of an enemy who has reached the very end of his journey.
A New Identity in a Strange Land
Wang Lin’s journey into the Luotian Star Region was not a peaceful one. He had barely escaped the combined assault of three masters at the Tide Abyss. Finding himself in an unknown part of the cosmos, he stumbled upon a desperate scene. Four cultivators from Ran Yun Star were trapped, hunted by a swarm of deadly creatures known as Ming Wu Chong (冥雾虫). These insects emit a strange fog that can erode a cultivator's very soul. For the four, who were not highly skilled, it seemed like the end.
Initially, Wang Lin was hesitant to intervene. He was a stranger here and preferred to observe. However, he needed a place to stay and gather information about this new world. He learned that the Luotian Star Region is not like other places. Here, power is not held by sects but by bloodlines. It is a land of powerful families. This was valuable knowledge, but first, he had to deal with the immediate threat. The creatures surged forward, their mist closing in on the terrified group. Seeing no other option, Wang Lin decided to act.
His method of rescue was simple but shocking. The Ming Wu Chong have one great weakness: lightning. And Wang Lin possesses a power far beyond ordinary lightning. Deep within the Tide Abyss, he had consumed half of an ancient being, the Ancient Thunder Dragon. This act had fused thunderous power directly onto his soul. Raising his hand, he unleashed it. The effect was immediate and dramatic. The swarm of terrifying insects scattered in panic, fleeing from the overwhelming presence of the ancient thunder. The four cultivators were stunned. In their eyes, only the messengers of the Lei Xian Hall wielded such pure, powerful thunder.
The Power of the Ancient Thunder Dragon
The thunder Wang Lin displayed was not a simple spell. It was a part of him now, a force attached directly to his nascent soul. This made it far more potent than any common lightning technique. The four survivors could not believe their luck. In the Luotian Star Region, the Lei Xian Hall holds a position of supreme respect and authority. Its messengers are revered. When they saw the thunder from Wang Lin, their minds were made up. They immediately bowed, convinced they were in the presence of a true messenger. Wang Lin, always quick to adapt, did not correct them. He saw the advantage this new identity could provide.
This moment marked the birth of another alias for the man who has worn many masks. In the past, he was known as Ma Liang (马良) and Zeng Niu (曾牛) in different regions to hide his true origins. Now, in the Luotian Star Region, he would be known as Xu Mu (许木). It is a simple change, but an effective one. By accepting the mistaken identity, he gains immediate access and protection within a foreign and potentially hostile territory. He allows the four grateful cultivators to lead him back to their home, Ran Yun Star, eager to learn more about this new world and its powerful families.
As he arrives on Ran Yun Star, he begins to piece together the social structure. The power of bloodlines means that status is inherited and deeply protected. An outsider, even one believed to be a Lei Xian messenger, would be viewed with a mixture of awe and suspicion. He knows he must tread carefully. His new "identity" gives him a shield, but it could also attract unwanted attention from those who might test his claimed status. He remains alert, observing the customs and the people, unaware that a ghost from his past is living out his final days on this very planet.
An Old Enemy's Final Days
The familiar figure he encounters is Sun Tai (孙泰). Once, Sun Tai was a powerful cultivator in the Yingbian (婴变) stage, a formidable enemy who had caused Wang Lin trouble. Now, he is a shadow of his former self. After a battle with the Giant Demon Clan ancestor, he was thrown across the stars and landed here, in the Luotian Star Region. The battle and the journey caused his cultivation to drop severely. The proud old man is now decrepit, his hair white, his face lined with the deep marks of approaching death. It is a sad and lonely end for someone who once commanded great power.
Seeing Wang Lin, Sun Tai holds no more fighting spirit. He has no strength left for battle. Instead, he thinks only of his home. He makes a simple request: when he dies, he hopes Wang Lin will take his remains back to his homeland. It is a wish for his soul to finally find peace, a concept known as "falling leaves settle on their roots." In these last days, he finds a small measure of comfort. He develops a deep fondness for Wang Ping, Wang Lin’s son. He dotes on the boy, showing a gentle side that was never visible during his years of cultivation and struggle.
This quiet scene holds a complication for the future. Wang Ping is not just Wang Lin’s son. He is also the child of Liu Mei (柳眉), a woman with her own complex history with Wang Lin. The original story suggests Liu Mei will also eventually come to the Luotian Star Region. Her arrival would undoubtedly shatter this fragile peace. The animated series has yet to show how this reunion, or confrontation, will unfold. For now, Wang Lin observes the old man playing with his son, knowing that Sun Tai's time is short, and that a storm involving Wang Ping’s mother may be brewing on the horizon.
