Hanfu and Accessory DIY, Hair Ornaments

I love hair ornaments 发į°Š.😍 Any chance there will be a discussion about them? Maybe articles dedicated to the artistry? 😊

Comments

  • Peng · I think there is a huge variety of hair ornaments for hanfu, but there are more possibilities if you make your own(personal opinion😂😂). Also looking forward to your sharing, there are not many topics about this kind in the group.😍😍
  • LiangYuZuan · Okay, would love to. â™Ĩâ™Ĩ Will do.
  • Estefana · welcome!😍
  • 00Pamela · I like hanfu hair ornaments too!😁😍

I was playing around with beads and a wood dowel. My beginning attempts to make a hair stick come out like this. Not finished, of course.😊

  • Estefana · Would it be complicated to make it? I’d like to try it, but I don’t know how to start.😂
  • letme · 👍👍
  • LiangYuZuan · I know, I know, right?! lols.😂 I had to sand the dowel down which took forever. And then I took experience from youtube tutorials on French flower beading. But I struggled the most on the creativity part: choosing colors and what theme to go by. This one was azure sky on clouds.
  • Eddie · Maybe you can post tutorials in the Group that we can learn.😂
  • Simoez · +1
  • 00Pamela · +1😂😂
  • Estefana · Perhaps you can get inspiration from hanfu accessory suppliers.😁😁
  • Jenelle8 · Is this your first time trying it? very nice.
  • LiangYuZuan · Oh, good idea. I don’t know where to start with suppliers. But I’ve been watching a lot of youtube and have subscribed to Hanfu related channels.
  • LiangYuZuan · I have worked on something else. It is so amateur of me. I will take a pic and show in a few minutes.
  • LiangYuZuan · Very limited materials. But it is close to what I think is the standatd. Hanfu and Accessory DIY, Hair Ornaments 2

I binge watched Eternal Love (aka Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms) and the spin off Three Lives Three Worlds The Pillow Book. By far most romantic and beautiful.

  • Eddie · Yeah it’s from the same series, I’ve seen part of it before. Very classic.
  • LiangYuZuan · Their costumes are what got me hooked. And the plot—-actually, the characters being fairies and magical creature spirit or demi-gods are what made me fall in love â™Ĩ It was the first time, I got to see the established 3 realms of existence: Heaven, Earth (Mortal Realm), and Demon world on Chinese terms that come across to me as very natural. I love how the characters evolve in stages and their clothes reflect that.
  • Xixi · Love that series!

After all these years, I still like this wuxia look. The form, the tapered cut to fit the body, and the color contrast gives a balance look of yin and yang.

Hanfu and Accessory DIY, Hair Ornaments 9

Comments

  • Sheila · The ’83 version? very classic.
  • pereira6 · I like the wuxia style, It always gives an extraordinary air.
  • Ling · TV drama is the best channel to spread martial arts style.😂😍
  • LiangYuZuan · Yep. Love it. â™Ĩ
  • LiangYuZuan · And so many stories and genre. Hey, how do you feel about the HK version of Hanfu from mainland version? I know they are the same, but the cut and form seem a little different somehow.
  • Ling · I haven’t tried to compare them in detail, because I don’t know much about hanfu in Hong Kong either. Another thing is that there are actually a lot of merchants producing hanfu on the mainland, each with subtle differences, but they can’t be exactly the same. I’ve seen an interview with Hong Kong girls wearing a hanfu to an event before, and from the video, HK hanfu looks like are very close to mainland hanfu.😂😂
  • LiangYuZuan · I think you are right. The authenticity is same standard.
  • camille · Wow, I loved this drama so much!😍😍 I watched it many times when I was a kid.😂

Is the Belt for This Hanfu Costume Accurate accurate historically to that of the Song Dynasty

Hanfu and Accessory DIY, Hair Ornaments 11

Comments

  • Eddie · From the back, it cannot be seen very clearly.😂
  • LiangYuZuan · Sorry, it is a screen cap. 😂😜 I’ll try to find another pic like it.
  • LiangYuZuan · It is similar to this belt. I don’t understand how it is secured around the waist. Are there hidden buttons? Hanfu and Accessory DIY, Hair Ornaments 12
  • Eddie · This does not seem to be a traditional hanfu, but more like a modified style of clothing. If it is a Song Dynasty belt, check out this article: https://www.newhanfu.com/6147.html Traditional hanfu belts can be divided into two types: one is fabric, made of various silk, cotton and hemp, commonly known as “Tao Dai (įŧĶåļĶ)”. The other category is leather, made of various kinds of raw and cooked leather, commonly known as “Ge Dai (éĐåļĶ)”. The two types of belts have different changes in the way they are tied with the development of clothing, the way they are tied directly (including the button ties) and with the belt ties. Although the types of belts are different, they also have common belts, such as belt hooks and belt loops. Maybe I should ask @Ling to write a post about this specifically.
  • Eddie · 😂
  • LiangYuZuan · That would be awesome! Please do! â™Ĩ

Yesterday, I braved it for the first time wearing my hair in a simple Hanfu style at work and then shopping. People didn’t say anything, but I could tell that I was noticed a lot. 😚😏

Comments

  • Stephanie · nice👍😍. Perhaps they are also curious to know what kind of costume it is.😂
  • Ling · 😍😍a really great way to spread hanfu😂
  • LiangYuZuan · I wind up telling them about Hanfu and some of its history. They appreciate that it is a culture being revived as we speak.😁
  • weiwei29 · wow you’re so brave! props to you!

I believe Hanfu revival is easily accepted because it is so beautiful and imaginative. People are friendly when they see pleasant and lovely things. Human nature strives for beauty.

Comments

  • Ling · Yea, in fact, hanfu is being enjoyed by more people.
  • Christine · The hanfu revival is now growing by leaps and bounds!💊💊
  • camille · I think hanfu will spread around the world😁

I ordered the wild flowers hair pins and the wig set from New Hanfu store. The butterflies were included.ðŸĨ°âĪ

The other two pieces are Fa Jian that I made to match the set. I will work on tutorials in the future to share on here.

Why was there only one Empress in Chinese history? Only Wu Zetian is known. With the many great things (innovations) contributed by women that enhance our Hanfu culture, I would think there were more powerful historical figures like her.

Comments

  • Y · Yes, when Wu Zetian became emperor, she brought many changes to the then Tang Dynasty, including the dress and makeup of women. She was great. But I personally think that not every emperor will be remembered by every person, let alone ordinary people.
  • Ling · The development and promotion of traditional hanfu is not without the participation of ancient women, but there are only a few famous ones that can be remembered by all in the long history. I’m glad that many historical records have been preserved and we can still learn the stories. This is a great topic, maybe I can find some information and bring you some stories of ancient women’s characters.
  • Adena Veal · following
  • LiangYuZuan · That would be awesome, Ling. 😍😎👍 I feel we should celebrate women, everyday women, because so much is contributed to the enhancement of society from them. Yet, merit is quietly acknowledged. They are unsung heroes.
  • LiangYuZuan · Oh, does anyone know the name of the Lady who discovered the use of silk from silk worms? (Sigh) There should be a compilation of women who developed, enhanced, or re-defined Hanfu like an encyclopedia or something.
  • LiangYuZuan · I wish the film and tv series makers didn’t villainize historical women figures so much. The inventive embellishments are terrible deviations from history facts. I guess they have to build drama out of boring facts. ðŸĪ·â€â™€ïļðŸ™„
  • April · Ancient legend has it that the Yellow Emperor’s wife, Lei Zu (åŦ˜įĨ–), invented “raising silkworms for silk”, but the reality of when silk was actually invented is still controversial.

Help! I made a T-shirt with Hanfu element for myself. And now my 7 seven year old son wants one made for him. I need ideas for boys clothing. What color scheme? Which neck shape is appropriate? Round neck or square neck or V-neck?

Comments

  • Simoez · I recommend you to refer to some men’s round neck robe styles.
  • April · I found a few styles for children, I hope it will help you. I think the round neck is a little better.
  • April · 1, this one is a fusion of the elements of the Pan button, V-neck. Hanfu and Accessory DIY, Hair Ornaments 16

  • LiangYuZuan · Looks complex. Not sure if I can replicate this style. I struggle with the jiao ling.
  • Sherrii · Wow, awesome. I want to make a hanfu for my family, too!👍👍
  • April · Ling is finishing up the cutting patterns for the hanfu production, including the jiaoling, and will probably release them in the next few days.
  • wanda · wow, remember to share with us when you’re done.
  • LiangYuZuan · Awesome! 😍

Was wondering how can no one could tell Fa Mulan was a girl from the start when she was in disguise. Now, having seen these young men in Hanfu & full makeup and some of the female cosplay artists doing makeup for male roles, it all makes sense.

Comments

  • Losiua1 · Yes, I feel that from modern cartoons and movies, I can immediately detect the difference.
  • LiangYuZuan · I feel people in Hanfu are beautiful. Gender difference is distinct, but makeup artists kick it up several notches when they create so fluidly. Beauty has no boundaries.
  • Ling · Hanfu makeup can make a huge difference😂😂

įĩįķ行 Pipa Journey

I came across this song on youtube. Poem adapted to song tells a very tragic story that is heartbreaking, but also very beautiful.

Comments

  • Ling · Wow, this blend of traditional instruments as well as the singing voice of the Peking Opera, this ancient poem has become all the more different.
  • LiangYuZuan · I love it. 😍
  • Xixi · Nice fusion of modern Chinese music and traditional instrument! I think I recognize the singer

What are those silk buttons called? They clasp like zimu kou. And they are very pretty shaped like flowery goldfish sometimes on Qipao or Shanghai dresses.

Comments

  • Xixi · It’s called pan kou, a knot kind of button that’s found on collars of Qipao and cheongsam.
  • Misty · It seems that pan kou was used in a lot of qing dynasty clothing styles, such as tang suit and cheongsams.
  • LiangYuZuan · Ah-ha…! Thank you. 😊👍

Does anyone know a period drama series about č•įš‡åŽ [愍įš‡åŽ] Empress Xiao by name to recommend?

Comments

  • April · I found two TV series about Empress Xiao, but not one specifically about her. Heroes in Sui and Tang Dynasties 1996
    Sui Yang Di 2008
  • April · I read some more “historical rumors” and Queen Xiao is actually such a legendary woman.ðŸ˜ąðŸ˜ą
  • LiangYuZuan · OMG! Thank you âĪïļ You’re the best!
  • LiangYuZuan · I want to know everything about her. ðŸ˜ē
  • Kaldea · I remember watching a TV series about the Sui and Tang dynasties when I was a kid: Heroes of Sui & Tang Dynasties, but I don’t remember the details.😂
  • Kaldea · about what? tell me details😍😁
  • LiangYuZuan · Where is she from? Family? Royal blood? Han heritage? Politics? Achievements?
  • LiangYuZuan · What is most famous about her among the people?
  • LiangYuZuan · Well, I am going to binge watch to sense what is legend and what is true about her.
  • leonard · It seems to be a classic TV series and I have some impressions of it.

I do love learning and keeping to traditional craft and skillful living. Liziqi is a hero.

Comments

  • Ling · I remember that in some parts of southwest China, there are still those old salt wells. The local people use a lot of homemade salt when they make bacon. Cooking the beef in this way is amazing, I’ve never tried it before. And the beef is cut so beautifully.😂😂
  • Elizabeth · Her videos are updated infrequently, but all fantastic!
  • LiangYuZuan · Ahhhhh! I salivate just thinking about beef and bacon. Stewed bacon with lotus.
  • LiangYuZuan · Yes. And I just follow. Can’t rush quality. 😎😊 Every episode tells a story even it is showing her work all day. But I know every detail in the arrangement of the event whether dinner or soiree with friends has purpose. She should be ranked as a living national treasure.
  • Elizabeth · Yes, I’ve seen a lot of comments on her videos that talk about how watching the videos calms people down, in fact more than that, liziqi is spreading Chinese culture in a really great way that makes people yearn for it. Although it may seem like a mundane life, I feel that each video is carefully prepared.ðŸĨ°ðŸĪ—

I recently bought a matte lip color I can’t match for any occasion makeup. It is so dark. Any recommendation? The color is called “Dahlia”

Comments

  • Kaldea · Perhaps for late Tang dynasty makeup?😂😂
  • Sherrii · Have not tried this colorðŸĪĢðŸ˜Ĩ

  • LiangYuZuan · I know. It’s an ugly color. The name sounded pretty. But terrible color.
  • LiangYuZuan · I just thought of Chinese vampire cosplay. 😊😏
  • Y · The late Tang Dynasty seems to be very fond black color??
  • Y · Yep, that’s the feeling. I don know how to describe it.😂

  • April · This material must be very comfortable😁
  • 00Pamela · How long you spent to make it👍
  • LiangYuZuan · Yes very. Chiffon.
  • LiangYuZuan · I don’t have a table or floor to cut. I hung up the fabric with pins in place and cut the whole piece that way. So end up with front and back both in one cut. The collar is same material so it ran when I sewed it on. If I had used a wide band 3 inch ribbon for hem, then it might look nicer.
  • LiangYuZuan · Would you believe 2 days? One for finding the material and cutting and one for sewing. I get interrupted from my projects a lot. Lols. Distractions.
  • LiangYuZuan · Thank you 😊 . My very first attempt.
  • Eddie · Nice work👍👍
  • LiangYuZuan · Thanks😊
  • Ling · I think hanfu making needs to be done on a very large table, especially with large sleeves. Unlike folding, which can be done on a bed.😂
  • Simoez · 😂special way of cutting
  • LiangYuZuan · 😂😂😂 I wish I could use my bed. It is always occupied.

  • Ling · The collar of the Taoist robe is rather special, with a very wide edge.
  • LiangYuZuan · Ling, I don’t mind at all. Please do as you see fit. Thank you so much😁
  • Loriann · How did you cut the sleeve part? I referred to the making diagram, but it was difficult to draw the pattern on the cloth.
  • potterheadfan777 · anyone figure out how to print these out? or did you just take the measurements of the pattern and go from there
  • 9uiver · I just drew them separately on larger papers with the same pattern to make it more visual and reusable in the future

Too Cute! Wedding Video

Look! A groom on a mission to get his bride!

Comments

  • Kaldea · The fusion of modernity and tradition
  • Kaldea · In a traditional wedding, there are more rituals that need to be completed. I’m not sure if this is the case all over China, but many of the rituals are now being replaced by more Western-style sessions.
  • LiangYuZuan · It is a fusion, yes. They simplified the rituals for the groom’s sake, I think. But it is beautiful that he has been adopted into the family. 😂 I am surprised that this is shared to show a glimpse of a Chinese wedding, which is rare.
  • LiangYuZuan · Kaldea, is there a renewal of vows ritual in Chinese tradition? Or the wedding is the one ritual for life and no need for renewal ceremony or to celebrate anniversary?
  • April · I have the impression that there is no such custom. Only similar to the golden marriage, silver marriage, such the wedding anniversary.
  • LiangYuZuan · Ahhh! Thanks. Now I know. 😊
  • Kaldea · The wedding process has quite a lot of elaborate rituals, but I have no recollection about the traditional celebrate anniversary. What I do know is that when a person reaches an advanced age, such as 70 or 80, his/her birthday is celebrated with great pomp and circumstance.
