On the morning of July 14, 2026, the Zhangshu Red Lotus Base in Ganzhu Town, Guangchang County, Jiangxi Province, became the stage for a unique fashion show. Amid blooming red lotus flowers and centuries-old camphor trees, the “Rainbow Garment” guofeng lotus field show opened the 21st Guangchang Lotus Tourism and Culture Festival.

The show was structured in four chapters — “Mud-Born,” “Water-Rhyme,” “Field-Return,” and “Wisdom-Fusion” — transforming a thousand mu of lotus fields into an immersive guofeng runway.

Four Chapters: From Hanfu Formations to Qipao Show

The first chapter, “Mud-Born,” featured the Lotus Goddess and Lotus Prince characters taking the stage with lotus props, symbolizing the deep cultural heritage of Guangchang’s thousand-year lotus cultivation tradition. This mythological opening established the cultural foundation for the entire show.

In the “Water-Rhyme” chapter, hanfu enthusiasts led a dynastic hanfu formation that traced the evolution of Chinese lotus aesthetics through different historical periods. Participants wore representative garments from each major dynasty — Tang-style chest-high ruqun skirts and blouses, Song-style beizi jackets paired with baiDiequn pleated skirts, and Ming-style mamianqun paired with capes. The procession moved along lotus field boardwalks accompanied by classical Chinese music, presenting a visual timeline of Chinese costume history spanning over a thousand years.

The “Field-Return” chapter shifted tone, with an elderly lotus farmer carrying bamboo baskets walking slowly through the fields, evoking the rustic beauty of rural life. Middle-aged lotus farmers followed, carrying lotus flowers and lotus seeds to celebrate the harvest. This segment also featured a qipao show, with participants wearing tailored qipao that created a visual contrast against the natural lotus landscape, demonstrating the versatility of Chinese-style aesthetics.

The “Wisdom-Fusion” chapter brought the show to a technological climax. Custom-designed hanfu robots took the stage alongside international exchange students, blending tradition with futuristic innovation. This segment, combining traditional costume displays with international cultural exchange and cutting-edge technology, became the most talked-about highlight of the event.

The Guangchang Lotus Tourism and Culture Festival, under the brand slogan “A Thousand Years of Lotus Language, Fragrance Reaching the World,” aims to establish the county as a lotus-focused lifestyle destination and drive rural tourism consumption. By transforming a thousand mu of lotus fields into a natural stage, the festival integrates lotus culture, ICH heritage, and guofeng aesthetics into a unified experience.

According to the organizers, the event was designed to be “viewable, wearable, photographable, and shareable” — encouraging visitors to wear hanfu or qipao when entering the park, using traditional Chinese clothing as a medium to deepen their engagement with lotus culture. The festival’s immersive guofeng approach has attracted attention from cultural tourism planners across Jiangxi Province as a replicable model for combining agricultural landscapes with traditional Chinese fashion heritage.
