Autumn wind moves down the old lanes of Luoyang’s Old Town historic district, and the Hanfu visitors move with it, so that every few steps the view resets: a grey brick wall, a lantern, a sleeve catching the light, then a food stall. On the Mid-Autumn holiday the district filled the way it does at peak season, with crowds walking through the ancient-style performances rather than queuing for them. “Standing in the old city feels like traveling a thousand years,” said Xu Xu, a visitor from Anhui. “I really felt Luoyang’s romance and depth.”
A Night Route Through the Old Town
Luoyi Ancient City, the reconstructed scenic area at the heart of the district, used the holiday to launch a series called “Luoyi Immortal Journey, an Ancient-Style Adventure” and to upgrade its Heavenly Court Sound concert into a mid-autumn special. The signature live show, “The Heavenly Maiden Scatters Flowers,” stages the romance of a city that served as a capital for thirteen dynasties, and the audience reaction on the night ran to audible gasps. Around it the programming stacks immortal NPC meet-and-greets, Guofeng flash mobs and themed parades, so that visitors move between events instead of watching from one spot.
Styling Studios Fill Their Books
The commercial effect shows up within a few hundred meters of the scenic area. Hanfu styling studios around Luoyi Ancient City ran busy through the holiday, and the pairing of a rented robe with the ancient city itself has become the district’s most visible spending pattern. Visitors describe the appeal as a double return: changing into Hanfu to walk the lanes and watch a live performance buys immersion, while the food stalls and courtyards along the way supply the everyday bustle that keeps the immersion from feeling staged.
Guesthouses have moved into the same logic. Liangyi Xunji, a guesthouse on East Street, was laid out around the existing lane fabric and the Drum Tower’s cultural line, with grey bricks and dark tiles shutting out traffic noise and courtyards that put guests inside the old town rather than beside it.
Thirty-Three Events Across the Holiday
Luoyang Tourism’s holiday calendar is the larger frame. Mid-Autumn and National Day fall together this year, and the city has scheduled 33 culture-tourism events and five boutique routes under four themes covering heritage, trendy play, autumn landscapes and local flavors.
Hanfu-facing programming is substantial. Sui-Tang Luoyang City’s “Prosperous Sui-Tang, Autumn Glow over the Divine Capital” runs September 25 to October 8 at Yingtian Gate, the Mingtang and Tiantang halls, and Jiuzhou Pond, with staged immersive experiences: a talisman hunt at the gate, a climbing ritual that receives a chart, an enter-the-hall-and-ask-the-rites interaction at the halls, and blessing check-ins at the pond, plus mid-autumn moon-viewing and a National Day “Ten Thousand Nations Pay Tribute” parade that hands out reunion cakes and “Heluo Forever Prosperous” flags. “Luoyi Immortal Journey” itself continues to October 15, with daily afternoon and evening rounds of quizzes, blessing photographs, flash mobs, parades, the Heavenly Maiden show and the Heavenly Court Sound concert, mixing live staging, lighting, wirework and pop performance.
The Route Built for Hanfu Wearers
Of the five routes, the second is the one written for this audience. “Prosperous Sui-Tang, Moon over the Divine Capital” is labeled as suited to Hanfu check-ins and Guofeng fans, and its stops run through Sui-Tang Luoyang City National Archaeological Park, covering Tiantang, Mingtang, Yingtian Gate, Jiuzhou Pond and Tianjie avenue, then Luoyi Ancient City, then Dingding Gate Site Museum and Tianjie again. The listed features are a mid-autumn moon-viewing ceremony, an Empress Wu parade, Guofeng NPC interaction and immersive lighting, with scenic areas extending their night hours for the period.
Two other programs extend the season beyond the city center. “Heluo Elegance, Luanzhou Gathering” runs September 25 to 27 at Luanzhou Du holiday town in Luanchuan, built on four lines covering Hanfu experience, trend music, landscape leisure and night consumption, and carrying two themed events, a Hanfu garden party and a farming harvest experience season. The 2026 Luoning apple-picking season, from September 23 to October 31, adds a Hanfu apple parade, appearances by the Ningguoguo mascot and an apple-themed market.
Behind the calendar is a shift in how the district treats its own streets. Laocheng has been moving the old lanes from static preservation toward living operation, using Luoyi Ancient City as the core and linking it to Cross Street and Lijing Gate, while improving commercial support and service quality and lengthening the culture-tourism spending chain. The holiday crowds are the visible half of that work; the guesthouses, styling studios and extended night hours are the half that stays after the moon-viewing ends.
