What is Gong Yang Ren

I’ve seen this term several times, but I’m not really sure what it refers to? Does it resemble the look in the video?

Gong Yang Ren refers to people who believed in religion and therefore financed the painting or construction of icons and the excavation of grottoes.

In order to show their devotion, to remember their merits and to make their names known to future generations, they painted or carved portraits of themselves and their families, relatives and servants on the corners or sides of religious paintings or statues, and these portraits are called Gong Yang Ren statues.

As shown in the video, they are written in Chinese as 供养人, 供养≈provisioning.
