Under the guidance of the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the Qingdao Bureau of Landscape and Forestry, the 5th China Sky Hanfu Show at Taiping Mountain Cableway officially commenced on April 28. Centered around the theme “Heavenly Beauty · Taiping Peony,” the event merged the elegance of Hanfu with the breathtaking vistas of the cableway, creating a timeless cultural spectacle that bridged ancient traditions with modern innovation. Hanfu enthusiasts, tourism representatives, and visitors from across the nation gathered at Taiping Mountain to witness this pioneering fusion of culture and tourism.
At 9:00 AM, accompanied by melodious traditional music, the grand procession began. Dressed in resplendent Hanfu, participants strolled from Fountain Plaza along Mugua Road to the main venue, engaging with onlookers through poetic recitations and graceful fan gestures.
In her opening speech, Guo Jing, General Manager of Taiping Mountain Cableway Scenic Area, highlighted the site’s dual role as both a vantage point showcasing Qingdao’s iconic “red-tiled roofs, verdant trees, azure seas, and sapphire skies” and a “skyborne cultural corridor” linking urban heritage with natural beauty. Qi Yue, Deputy Director of Qingdao’s Bureau of Culture and Tourism, emphasized the event’s significance: “The Sky Hanfu Show exemplifies Qingdao’s shift from ‘sightseeing’ to ‘immersive’ tourism. By transforming the cableway into a runway against mountain and sea backdrops, we’ve revitalized tradition, making it a trending symbol embraced by the youth.” Pang Dongjie, Director of the Bureau of Landscape and Forestry, added, “Taiping Mountain, as the city’s ‘green lung,’ not only sustains ecology but also enriches cultural life through events like this, allowing citizens to connect with history amid nature.”
The opening ceremony featured vibrant cultural performances and sand art displays, transporting audiences through dynastic music and attire to experience the depth of Chinese civilization. At 10:36 AM, the signature Sky Hanfu Show began, with enthusiasts riding the cableway as their flowing robes painted a living tableau against the landscape. During the May Day holiday, additional Hanfu parades will invite visitors to savor spring’s charm amidst Qingdao’s coastal grandeur.
Since its debut in 2021, the Taiping Mountain Sky Hanfu Show has become a cultural phenomenon, attracting over 100,000 participants across five editions and cementing its status as a hallmark of Qingdao’s tourism. This year’s event not only celebrated the enduring allure of Hanfu but also showcased Qingdao’s vision to “culture enriches tourism, and tourism amplifies culture.” By embracing tradition with open arms, the city ensures that ancient attire thrives in modernity, and its natural wonders captivate the world.
