I've been heading to the beach a lot these past few weeks and now I'm curious... what did people wear when they went swimming in pre-modern times? I have some understanding of Western swimwear (bathing gowns from the 1500s on), but I don't know anything about it outside of Europe. Does anyone have any insight as to what was worn in China throughout the ages for swimming?
