Chongyang Festival (重阳节, Double Ninth Festival), a traditional Chinese folk festival, falls on the ninth day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar every year. The ancients believed that Chongyang was an auspicious day. In ancient times, folk had the custom of praying for blessings, worshipping gods and ancestors, and drinking feast for longevity. In the present day, it has added the connotation of respect for the elderly. The two important themes of today’s Chongyang Festival activities are to climb high to enjoy autumn and respect to the elderly.
